About the Author

Marge Lial (late) was always interested in math; it was her favorite subject in the first grade! Marge's intense desire to educate both her students and herself has inspired the writing of numerous best-selling textbooks. Marge, who received bachelor's and master's degrees from California State University at Sacramento, was affiliated with American River College. An avid reader and traveler, her travel experiences often found their way into her books as applications, exercise sets, and feature sets. Her interest in archeology lead to trips to various digs and ruin sites, producing some fascinating problems for her textbooks involving such topics as the building of Mayan pyramids and the acoustics of ancient ball courts in the Yucatan.

 

Raymond N. Greenwell earned a B.A. in Mathematics and Physics from the University of San Diego, and an M.S. in Statistics, an M.S. in Applied Mathematics, and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Michigan State University, where he earned the graduate student teaching award in 1979. After teaching at Albion College in Michigan for four years, he moved to Hofstra University in 1983, where he currently is Professor of Mathematics.

 

Raymond has published articles on fluid mechanics, mathematical biology, genetic algorithms, combinatorics, statistics, and undergraduate mathematics education. He is a member of MAA, AMS, SIAM, NCTM, and AMATYC. He has served as governor of the Metropolitan New York Section of the MAA, as well as webmaster and liaison coordinator, and he received a distinguished service award from the Section in 2003. He is an outdoor enthusiast and leads trips in the Sierra Club’s Inner City Outings program.

 

Nathan P. Ritchey earned a B.A. in Mathematics with a minor in Music from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania. He earned a M.S. in Applied Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Carnegie Mellon University. He is former chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Youngstown State University  and is currently a professor in the Department of Mathematics at Kent State University. He has published articles in economics, honors education, medicine, mathematics, operations research, and student recruitment. Nate is a Consultant/Evaluator for the North Central Association's Higher Learning Commission and regularly participates in program evaluations.

 

In recognition of his numerous activities, Nate has received the Distinguished Professor Award for University Service, the Youngstown Vindicator's "People Who Make a Difference Award," the Watson Merit Award for Department Chairs, the Spirit in Education Award from the SunTex corporation, and the Provost's Merit Award for significant contributions to the Honors Program.

Excellent!

This is a useful book for anyone involved in mathematics. This book has many practice problems as well as solutions. It also contains many problems that pertain to everyday life at home or office. This book is a must for any high school student wanting to get a head start on the college mathematics. This book reads very well, and contains excellent drawings to enhance the comprehension of the topics discussed.

I like the many graphs, examples and diagrams.
The only thing I really object to is that it appears to be a course work text and expecting anyone (first time) to take in this amount of
information in a short time like a semester course would be troubling.
There are parts here that are full year courses or longer.
My estimate is that the book could be used for four semester courses
in a fair manner. The object of education has to be to educate the student, not kill him with homework... breaking good students should be frowned upon!
The text is also a very good reference book, but lacks what I would call
"full exposure" to axiomatic proofs.

USED BOOK DO NOT COME WITH ACCESS CARD PACKAGE.

CAUTION: used books do not come with ACCESS CARD PACKAGE even though title and description on first page clearly states so. The description on front page is only for new books. Not sellers fault. Amazon needs to make a change to allow used book description on front page as well as new book description. This could be done better. Needs improvement on amazon's part.

Her mom and aunts changed the world, but will Annie be able to change Death?

I felt like I'd waited for this story forever. And it did not disappoint. I laughed, I cried, I railed against the injustices that seem prevalent for this wonderful magical family. Every series set in this world has given me the warm fuzzies, and every series has its own set of challenges. But this new series finally gives relief to the whole "tragic death of Donovan and the sad lonely existence of Nat "story lines'. Not right away and not in a finished way, but it eased much of the lingering sadness.

I can not wait for more....of any of them. (Still hoping she'll expand on the short stories about the sisters)

I really enjoyed the start of the story of Goldie's daughter Annie. Annie is another great character who is honest about her flaws and strong points. I enjoyed learning more about Nat as well. Very touching. I always look forward to her next books.

Amazing!

This story is my favorite out of all of Elizabeth A Reeves books. I have read all the Cindy and Goldie stories, but I loved this one. I cried quite a few times but couldn't and didn't want to put it down. I hope there will be more from Annie.
