I love this book

I love this book. I didn't know it was tiny (about 6" tall). I expected a full size book (at least 12-14" tall). Other than the size, it's a great book!

Over all I actually like the smaller size now that I'm used to it. It originally just wasn't what I expected when I opened the box from the mail.

I'm 29 & live in Japan...& am trying to start learning basic words. I recommend this book!!!

Great for children or new Japanese students!

I'm an engineer for a Japanese company here in the US and I recently began learning Hiragana and Katakana. This book is fantastic to begin building your vocabulary. The pages are set up by topic and have the romanji and either hiragana or katakana. This book has no Kanji! I prefer that at the beginning of my learning, I see no Kanji. It is just too confusing!
I also have a three-year-old son that has looked at this book also. I'm simply amazed at how quickly he has picked up everything that I've read to him. Each word has a picture and he quickly recognizes it. He certainly can't read either the Japanese or English, but he can pick up the language very easily!
This a great addition to either a children's library or the new Japanese student's.

Fun learning for any one and any age

My wife (Japanese native)and I (Japanese speaking American) purchased this book for our two year old son. We spend 15 minutes with him daily going through the pages. At first he only paid attention to pictures of words he already knew like "boru" (ball) and "hikoki" (airplane), etc. After a few weeks, he has more than tripled his vocabulary. Over Thanks giving, after diner, my family was sitting around and my brother picked up the book. The next thing we knew, it was a fun learning experience for my whole family (all non Japanese speakers). My brother who is 35 has asked us to buy the book for him for christmas.

A riveting story of courage, strength, and self sufficiency

Ben, away at school in Portland, Oregon, fulfilling his dead mother’s dream, is told his father is sick, and his sister is there to take him home.

In fact, his father has had a severe stroke, can’t move or speak, and has left 9 year old Ben, his 13 year old brother and older sister to fend for themselves.

Out of potential tragedy and a need to survive, his two older siblings plow and plant the fields, while Ben tends to his dad, and then decides to fulfill his dad’s dream – to build a much need barn for the animals.

Seeing the barn as a way to bring his dad back from his stroke, the three kids outline a foundation; drag rocks from the creek, and beginning building their dad’s dream.

Avi has again told a simple story of courage, strength, and self sufficiency that is both riveting as it is heart warming.
