The Heartbreaker is back in town. Whose heart will get broken this time? As athletic director for the Parks Department, Lucki Stevenson spends most of her time coaching unruly teenagers instead of giving her heart a much-needed pep talk. And when all-grown-up, boy-next-door, Dr. Sam Kirk moves back to town, Lucki wants to forfeit the game of love completely! Sam broke her heart once before, and she won't give him a chance to do it again... Returning home to care for his younger brother J.J., after his mother's death, Sam is happy to accept Lucki's expert advice about kids-and even happier that the tomboy he remembers is now a beautiful woman. When Lucki agrees to help him with J.J., Sam is sure he's on the road to success as an instant parent, and possibly as a husband-but first he's got to convince Lucki that he's not the heartbreaker he once was, and that good guys do finish first...

Destiny strikes...
By bsktbl
Sam, "The Heartbreaker," used to make all of the girls in high school go goo-goo-gaa-gaa all over him. EVERY single one, he dumped. He took his good looks for granted, he thought it was all just a fun game! Lucki was one of his late victims. Lucki thought it really was true love at first sight, but of course, Sam dumped her, and she was heartbroken. Sam moved out of the small town to go to the big city and open up a medical practice, but he always missed the quiet atmosphere of his hometown. Later in his life, he moves back to his hometown, and finds Lucki as his next-door neighbor. The air starts charging with tension (in a good way), the electricity starts crackling (in a good way), and what happens next? Read "The Heartbreaker," by Maddie James, to find out! A SUPERB read to pass the time!

Captured my attention from the first page
By Romancing the Book

A contemporary romance that captured my attention from the first words on the first page. The romance had many unexpected twists and turns with sadness and sorrow thrown in due to misunderstandings - some that went back years. There were also chuckles and laughter along the way given some of the antics of the various characters as well as plenty of wooing and romance. The story would build up and you would think you knew what was coming but the author would take you down a different path. This happened several times throughout the story but it just added to the plot. The ending was what I was rooting for but once again the author got you there in a totally unexpected way. This is the second book of Maddie James that I've read for a review but it won't be my last. I love the way she writes and will look for more of her books in the future. I recommend this book - maybe you too can uncover another favorite author.
Favorite Quote: "Relax Lucki," he whispered. "Just relax. I'll take care of everything." He stroked several loose locks of hair from her forehead, then reaching back, undid the elastic holding her ponytail and let her hair fall free.
Lucki searched his face and her breath caught in her throat. That he would go to this length to please her, to woo her...what did it mean? Was Sam, the boy next door, really in love with her. Was this forever?

"a fast paced read that grabbed you with the very first scene"
By mnix
Lucinda "Lucki" Stevenson is the athletic director for a neighboring town. She is used to dealing with younger kids and knows the ins and outs of their language and needs. She can see that J.J., the kid brother of her child hood friend, is heading down a very bad road but Dr. Samuel Kirk won't heed her advice. Add to this the fact that she has always had romantic feelings for Dr. Kirk, but not wanting to risk her heart and destroy a perfectly good friendship she has never acted upon them. However, Dr. Kirk is sending out some rather confusing signals.
Dr. Samuel Kirk has returned to the small town to raise his 12 year old brother, J.J., after his mother recently passed away. Sam's believes everyone should mind their own business and let him take care of his brother. He would much rather discuss shared beds with Lucki than how to discipline his kid brother after all.
The Heartbreaker was a fast paced read that grabbed you with the very first scene. It was nice watching these characters dance around their feelings and contrive to work out their misunderstandings. J.J. seemed rather mature for his age at times and at other times he seemed spot on with his rebelliousness. The sparks slowly ignited between Sam and Lucki and the situations that they get in to are very humorous. They had a history together and Sam had broken her heart, but I never felt that there was closure there. I was left wondering why he did what he did all those years ago. Lucki's grievances with Sam seemed very solid and justifiable yet they were glossed over in the end and I felt heartbroken that things weren't resolved better.
